Israel is a country in the Middle East. Israel is the home of Judaism and is also the birthplace of Christianity. Judaism is a world wide religion and is practised throughout many countries of the world. People who follow Judaism are Jews or Jewish. Jewish people worship in a synagogue and speak Hebrew or Yiddish. Israel is surrounded by countries whose people mainly follow Islam. The Jewish people made their home in Israel in 1947 after World War 2.
